You may have heard President Trump criticize the media calling it “fake news.” Yes, “fake news.” That’s not all entirely true. There are some fake news sites to trick you to think they’re “real.”

As an aspiring journalist, I believe Trump is messing with the wrong profession. He calls the media “the enemy of the American people.” To me, that’s not true at all because the media is getting the news out to the people.

To me as a journalist, Trump is trying to get attention by attacking the media, like a bully. You might be thinking at this point, “Who cares about the media?”

People in the profession of journalism take the work with pride, just like getting a good grade on a test. It hurts the profession of journalism because their level in society has dropped since Trump calling them “fake news.” On Feb. 17, President Trump’s tweet said “The FAKE NEWS media (failing New York Times, NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!”

I take journalism to heart because it is the profession I want to be in when I get older. It is also attacking student journalists because when hearing this, it just shocks them that the president is attacking the profession of journalism.

You might not care about this now, but later on in life you will. This is a turning point in journalism. We need journalism in a democracy. We are the news and we are for the people.
