Valentine’s Day Fun Facts

It’s no surprise that around 6 billion couples get engaged on Valentine's Day, as it is the day of love. People finally put a ring on the person they care and love for, on one of the most romantic days of the year. 

We all know that chocolate and flowers are the most common gift to give on Valentine's Day. However, $3.9 billion is spent on jewelry every year. It must be all of the engagement rings! 

It has been said by the National Retail Federation (NRF) that $1.7 million is spent on pets. 69% of pet owners will actually spend money on a pet. Do you spend money on your pets? 

If you don't know what to get your loved one, get them a box of chocolate! 36 million boxes are sold on Valentine's Day. Who doesn’t like chocolate? 

Is this a surprise to you? It is said that men spend more money on their loved ones around Valentine's Day. 

Valentine's Day is a busy season for florists. More than 250 million roses are sent to loved ones. It is expected that $2 billion is spent on flowers during the month of February. 

The National Confectioners Association says that the number one chocolate is caramel! Followed by the classic flavors like nuts, cream-filled, and regular chocolate. Do you like caramel-filled chocolate? "My favorite has to be the caramel-filled," freshman Lilly Watkins said.

The NRF says that the total average money spent on Valentine's Day is supposed to go up 32 percent from last year increasing to $27.4 million. 

It may just be because they are single or think that the holiday is overrated, but the NRF  says that 3 in 10 adults do not celebrate Valentine's Day. "Valentine's Day isn't really a big deal," freshman Kayla Venz said.  Do you think Valentine's Day is too cheesy?...
