Nick Martinez & Skateboarding

“You might not make it to the top, but if you are doing what you love, there is much more happiness there than being rich or famous.”- Tony Hawk

Junior Nick Martinez is a man of many hobbies. One of those hobbies is the art of skateboarding.

Skating is something that doesn’t come easy to most. But Martinez has put countless hours into improving this skill.

Martinez has been skating since he was 11 years old. It started as a way to bond with his friends, but it quickly became more. According to Martines, he skates “because it’s very therapeutic.” He just recently got a new deck and he says that it brought back many good memories. His favorite places to skate are Zachary’s Playground, O’Day Park, and City Hall.

Skating has become a staple of Martinez’s life. He uses it as a way to hang out and have fun with the people around him- “My favorite part of skating is definitely just getting to hang out with my friends.”

Skate culture is all about connecting and coming together with people you normally wouldn’t. Skating is all about freedom- you can do whatever you want on that board. According to Martinez, “With skating, I can just do anything.”
