A toxic trend is booming on social media where a person will eat a laundry pod for a “challenge.” However, eating these pods are extremely dangerous and contain thousands of toxins for the human body to digest.

Although the colors may look pretty or whatever, the reasoning for eating a Tide Pod may be, it’s never going to be worth it when the consumer gets hospitalized. The pods contain 90 percent concentrated cleaning products.

Someone who ate a tide pod from Liberty said that she couldn’t stop puking or get the taste out of her mouth. Many of the people were afraid of getting in trouble by saying they ate it.

Tide tweeted out, “We want people who are participating in the conversation about intentionally ingesting liquid laundry packets to be aware of the danger this poses to themselves and to others.”

Although the company is completely against people eating the detergent, many people still do.

According to the Washington Post, more than 12,000 people called Poison Control Center in 2017 about the laundry pod related incidents. However, the number has decreased over the past few years. There were 14,349 incidents in 2015.

There have been eight deaths so far this year from people eating tide pods. It’s always safe to say if a product says that it’s very toxic, then it’s not a good idea to eat it for a challenge on the Internet. This challenge can cause life-threatening breathing problems, burns, problems with blood pressure and loss of consciousness.
