Halloween Events Are Coming to Saint Louis

Here are 10 spooky and family-friendly events coming to the St. Louis area in October

As Halloween nears, many spooky fall activities have begun in the Saint Louis area.

As the month of September comes to a close, Halloween is right around the corner. October is a month full of spooky, creepy, exciting things to celebrate the holiday of Halloween. There are many events throughout the entire month, here are some coming to St. Louis. 

1. Fright Fest

Where: Six Flags St. Louis (4900 Six Flags Rd., Eureka, 63025)

When: Weekends from Sept. 16 – Oct. 29

Hours: Fri. 6 p.m.- 11 p.m., Sat. 12 p.m. – 11 p.m., Sun. 12 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Six Flags Fright Fest is an event that comes around every year from mid September to the end of October. Six Flags Fright Fest includes lots of scare actors walking around the park, sections of the park decorated for a theme (clowns, aliens, etc) filled with scare actors. Special events are also put on at the Six Flags theater during this time for those who wish to watch. Along with the event shows, there are multiple haunted houses. Those haunted houses include the “Slaughter House,” ‘”Jingle Mangle,” “Creatures of the Corn,” and “Oddballs Funhouse”. More details about food, rides, events, and others on the website.

2. Fright at the Museum (City Museum) 

Where: The City Museum (750 N. 16th St., St. Louis, 63103)

When: Sept. 28 – Oct. 29

Hours: Fri. & Sat. 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Wed, Thurs, and Sun., 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Price: Included with admission ($20 plus tax) 

Every Friday through Sunday in October, experience frights and fun at the City Museum! Many exhibits within the museum are decorated for halloween and are immersive with exceptional artifacts. Exhibits include “Skeleton’s Ball,” “Mingo Monster Mash,” “Cemetery Secrets,” “Web Town,” and more! Eats and Drinks also include new frighting bars such as the “Vampire Bar” and “Coven & Cauldron,” which cater to adults, teens, and kids of all ages. Get yourself a ticket and experience Fright at the Museum for yourself!

3. Big Joel’s Spooky Safari 

Where: Big Joel’s Safari (13187 State Hwy M, Wright City, 63390)

When: Sept. 28 – Oct. 31

Hours: Mon, Thurs, Fri, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sun. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tues & Wed, Closed

Price: Ages 2 – 12 ($10), adults ($12), kids under 2 free

Come enjoy Big Joel’s Spooky Safari! Spooky Safari begins Sept. 28 and ends on Oct. 31. During this time, the park is decorated for Halloween and Fall with lots of other fall events to enjoy. Admission is $12 for adults (13+), $10 for kids ages 2 – 12, and anyone under 2 is free! Last admission to the zoo is 30 minutes before closing time and entrance gates will be closed. (Please look at their website as the GPS directions may not be accurate).

4. Halloween at Grant’s Farm 

Where: Grant’s Farm (10501 Gravois Rd., St. Louis, 63123)

When: Oct. – Oct. 29

Hours: Every Thurs – Sun, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Price: $16 daily parking in advance, $19 day of plus $10 per person for haunted tram ride

In-person Halloween nights are returning to Grant’s Farm! Lots of fall activities as well as food and drinks to enjoy! Maps are available online as well as food and beverage options. Event activities may have additional costs.

5. Movie In the Park – Boulevard Park

Where: Boulevard Park (2550 Lake St. Louis Blvd., Lake St. Louis, 63367)

When: Friday, Oct. 13

Hours: Dusk

Price: Free 

Boulevard Park is having their very own movie in the park! The movie being shown is Casper. So, grab a blanket, some snacks, and a chair and head out to Boulevard Park Amphitheater to enjoy. Movie begins at Dusk and is completely free to enjoy!

6. Boo at the Zoo Nights

Where: Saint Louis Zoo (One Government Dr., St. Louis, 63110) 

When: Oct. 13 – Oct. 29

Hours: 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Price: Varies by day, check website

Families of all ages can come and experience the fun of Boo at the Saint Louis Zoo! Every night from Oct. 13 – 29 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. You can enjoy new special food and drinks, festive decorations, entertainers, and more. Photo opportunities include ”Kraken Cove,” “Extraterrestrial Encounter,” and “Pumpkin Palooza”. Prices vary per night, and Oct. 16 is sensory friendly night for those who like quieter settings.  Boo at the Zoo t-shirts are available for purchase online as well as at the Zoo upon arrival.

7. St. Louis Escape 

Where: St. Louis Escape (1517 South 8th Street, St. Louis, 63104)

When: Oct. 1 – 31

Hours: Varies depending on reservation

Price: Varies depending on reservation

Come book an escape today! Due to Covid, all escape rooms are private. A minimum of 4 players must be present to secure a private room. To add guests on the day of your reservation, see the reception desk. Walk-ins are accepted but booking in advance is preferred. Escape room players are required to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled booking. If you need to cancel your reservation, please email [email protected] and they can offer credits for future bookings. You must cancel within 24 hours, no refunds.

8. Beetlejuice the Musical

Where: The Fabulous Fox (527 North Grand Blvd. St. Louis 63103)

When: Oct. 10-22

Hours: See website

Price: $35 – $129 (varies on seating)

Based on Tim Burton’s film, this musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz. Her whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a certain demon who loves his stripes. Tickets are now on sale online starting at $35. The entire musical runs at about two and a half hours. Viewer discretion is advised as the musical has mature themes and explicit language. 9. The Great GO! St. Louis Halloween Race

Where: Eureka 

When: Oct. 22

Hours: Half-Marathon, 10K, and 5K start at 7 a.m., 1-mile Fun Run starts at 9 a.m.

Price: Varies depending on race (see website)

The Great GO! St Louis Halloween Race features a half-marathon, a 10K, and a 5K. Runners will have great post-amenities after the race. Runners are also encouraged to dress in costume! If you have any questions about this race, please contact the race director at [email protected]

10. Frights and Heights

Where: Gateway Arch National Park

When: Oct. 14

Hours: 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.

You’re invited to enjoy Halloween at the Saint Louis Gateway Arch! For the holiday, the Arch transforms into a family-friendly party for all to come and experience! Attendees are encouraged to wear their best family-friendly costume (No masks, No fake or real weapons) and participate in the arranged Halloween activities. General admission to the family-friendly Halloween party is FREE, but advance registration is required, and space is limited.  Haunted Tram Ride to the Top Tickets are available for purchase and include general admission. Gift bags will also be supplied for children to collect candy and non-candy treats!

Alexis Cullivan is a senior and this is her second year in publications. Outside of school, she plays recreational co-ed volleyball every Friday and works at Old Navy. She enjoys listening to music, such as Beach House, Braxton Knight, and more, hangouts with friends, reading, writing, and even crocheting! Anna Simms is the editor-in-chief of LHStoday.org and this is her third year in publications. She is also in her senior year and second year at SCC. After high school, Anna plans on going to a university to study biomedical sciences, and later get a doctorate. She is also a part of Liberty’s drama club as an executive board member, and has done both acting and tech. Outside of school, you can find Anna either taking photos, editing, hanging out with friends, listening to music, or reading!
