Mr. Barker shows junior Sam Arrington the difference in conditioning styles in AP psychology class.

Social Studies Teacher Mr. Barker

When asked if he felt more disconnected from students, social studies teacher Mr. Barker said he doesn’t and that it’s a benefit that he has formed positive relationships.

“I’m sure part of that is that I had a chance to get to know my students before we went all virtual. This time, there was also at least a week’s notice of warning so I could lay some frameworks out that allowed virtual learning to be successful. I also, honestly, learned from my mistakes in March, and it helped me grow as an educator. More than anything, I’ve remembered the value of relationships, and I make time for that each hour alongside the content teaching.”

Teachers who make a connection with their students often make it easier for the students to learn in that class.
