Football

The varsity football team is currently 5-3 after a convincing win against Fort Zumwalt South, 56-28. The Eagles play Holt this week, and if they win this game they will more than likely host the first round of districts. Coach McMillen is confident that if the team shows up like they did against FZS, they should beat Holt as well. The team has played well all season. Jaylen Mack (11) leads the team with 19 touchdowns and 124 total points scored. With Cody McMullen (12) hitting 1,802 passing yards, he’s just shy of hitting 2,000 and is possible if he plays well this coming game.

Soccer

After losing game one, varsity soccer has gone 13-1 since. Getting them to an astounding 13-2 record. Their only other loss came against De Smet on Oct. 16 in the Champions League Tournament Semifinals. The Eagles look to finish the season as strong as possible. Coach Ludecke is confident in his players to win their last few games. Cooper Ludwig (12) leads the team with 11 goals while Dylan Handlan (12) leads the team with 7 assists. Aidan Brown (12) has a 14-1 record and five shutouts as keeper.

Softball

After a strong start to the season, the softball team fell to a 10-14 record. This is their first losing season since 2021, but the coaches and players were all still happy with growth and stats wise the team looked solid once again. Ella Smith (10) led in batting average at .423 and in triples with 7. And the top pitcher was Addyson Murphy (11) with a 9-10 record and a 3.34 ERA. Very solid stats, but sadly not enough to propel the softball team to a winning record.

Cross Country

After a strong season so far, the cross country team won Conference in the South Division for boys and girls. They are looking strong to send both teams to state this year with a scant three meets until the competition. Ayden Taylor (12) was the conference champion with a time of 15:48, finishing 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The Eagles cruised to the overall team title. The girls were led by South Division race champion Bella Navaro-Sanchez (10), who won her race in a time of 18:41.

Golf (Girls)

The team had a strong finish to districts with two players making it to state. Emerson Stubblefield (11) and Payton Lindsay (9) both individually qualified to state. Lindsay finished 11th at districts and was named to the Class 4 District 2 All-District team. The team finished sixth place out of 15 teams in a very competitive district meet.

Volleyball

After a difficult season thus far with a final record being 14-15, the volleyball team is struggling after being upped to the largest district in the sector. Yet even with that they are showing great growth and are recovering well after the loss of seven seniors this year. The leader in serves this year was Alanna Orton (11) with her statline being 256 serves and 27 aces. The leader in blocks was a tie between Alanna Orton (11) and Kinley Jacobi (12) who both have 31. The leader in the attack stats was Kenna Harris (11) with 606 attacks and 211 kills.

Tennis

After a well-rounded season, the tennis team ends it with a final record of 6-9 with two of the matches coming down to the last minute with their last game being 5-4. There was a lot of rebuilding being done after the senior class’s exodus. This year’s team featured the largest ever amount of people going in to try out for tennis and it was the first time in Liberty history they had to make cuts. The team plans for a strong effort towards training in the offseason to come back better than ever.

Swim

After a successful start to the season, the swim team has improved in all aspects dropping time and moving higher in the rankings. They are having difficulties when it comes to winning meets but are planning on working hard to fix this. They are looking to continue this success into the rest of the season with hopes of placing higher and higher in the rankings. The team placed fourth at the Zumwalt North Invitational.
