One anticipated event that happens year round is the annual announcing of Liberty’s teacher of the year.
This year, Student Council and AP government teacher, Lindsey Holmes, was announced as this year’s teacher of the year.
The announcement did not come as a shock. Holmes is looked up to by many students around Liberty.
“She has done alot for the StuCo program and she always makes sure everyone feels included,” Student Council member Sydney Eilermann (12) said.
On the morning of Nov. 22, teachers gathered around the front lobby while they waited to hear the result. Once the announcement was made, Principal Edgar Nelson gave Holmes a basket of goodies while the rest of the teachers applauded her for her recognition.
Holmes is known around the school for her work in the Student Council program. She is the adviser of Student Council, which means she runs and makes sure students are providing and producing for the school. Her hard work and dedication she has put into the program has not gone unnoticed throughout the years of her teaching.
“She has a lot of passion for the student body, especially in StuCo,” Student Council member, Myan Huynh (12) said.
Holmes has 13 years of teaching under her belt. She has worked 12 of those years here at Liberty. While Student Council has been a main priority for her teachings, she also takes pride in her AP government classes.
“It means the world to be nominated and chosen by my colleagues for Teacher of the Year,” Holmes said.
Students and staff members love Holmes for her caring personality. She always makes sure that her students leave with a smile on her face and that all students feel welcomed into her classroom.
This was just one of many reasons why Holmes was the perfect selection for this years teacher of the year.
“There isn’t a better place to work than Liberty and I love every member of my department,” Holmes said. “It’s been great to work with people that are like family. My Student Council kids are a big part of this too. We coordinate so many fun things together and I love working with each and every one of them.”
Previous teacher of the year staff members are thrilled to welcome Holmes into the hall of fame for teacher of the year.
The 22′-23′ teacher of the year, Matthew Barker, is overjoyed about the announcement of this years teacher of the year.
“I feel overjoyed that one of my fellow colleges received this acknowledgement,” Barker said. “She 100% deserves this.”
Holmes continues to always help others, and at the end of the day she is a teacher who made a positive impact on her fellow students and colleagues lives.
