The swim team is diving into their 2024-2025 season and as they get into this new season, they are hone to not only their physical skills, but also for lasting friendships and develop essential life lessons.
With all the early morning practices, the thrills of competition and all their shared experiences, have created a bond among teammates that transcends the pool deck. Their new coach Gregory Franklin has a lot planned for them.
“We’re focusing on the good skills and strengths they’ve had in the past and building on that,” Franklin said.
Franklin started coaching the swim team because he said he wanted to try something new and is so excited to have the chance to bring the team to state this season. Franklin has many strategies to get them there.
“It’s gonna take some work. I’ve been testing the athletes at every meet to see how they’ll do. We will also be practicing taking leadership,” Franklin said.
With the team losing five seniors and gaining a new coach since last season, you’d expect it to be difficult for the athletes.
“We’re all very close and very supportive of one another and work together,” Delaney Bartels (10) said.
Bartels is one of the swimmers on the team. The team had their first tournament at Lafayette High School on Dec. 3 and took second place.
“We were all cheering each other on, it was a great time,” Bartels said.
This team is more than just teammates. The swim team is more than just a sport. It’s unforgettable memories with your best friends doing the things you love and giving it your all.
