Recently, some of our National Honor Society members came together to help clean our school and create an inviting environment.

The National Honor Society, also known as NHS, is an organization here at Liberty that works to complete service projects and do good things for our school.

You have likely seen things done by NHS without even realizing it. About a month ago, a few students got together to create a banner for Veteran’s Day. Their most recent project? Making sure the school is squeaky clean.

On Dec. 7, a handful of NHS members got together to clean up the school. They stacked tables, wiped down windows, and even cleaned the bathrooms. They came to school early Saturday morning, and dedicated their time in order to help better the school.

These NHS students chose to help the school for a multitude of reasons. For example, Haley Jett (11) said that her reason was wanting to help keep people healthy. “Schools that aren’t well maintained can cause health problems,”Jett said, “[Having health problems] can make school really hard to come to.”

Olivia Fehling (11) and Nate Wietbrock (11) volunteered because they wanted to see what our custodians do for us every day. “I chose to help because it was an opportunity for us to get service hours,” Fehling said. “And to understand the job that the janitors have to do and how important it is.” “It’s a good opportunity to see what the janitors do for our school,” Wietbrock said.

Others, like Ethan Coleman (11), chose to help out in order to keep the school environment welcoming. “I think that [cleaning is] pretty important, no one wants to be in a dirty place,” Coleman said.

These students dedicated a few hours of their time to ensuring that our school looks just as incredible as the people in it. In order to make sure that their efforts don’t go to waste, try not to make large messes, and remember to clean up after yourself.
