The Secret is Out: ‘Trap’ Gets Chosen for Thescon

Drama Club will be performing their fall play on Jan. 11 at the Stifel Theater

The Liberty Drama Club has recently been chosen to perform their fall play “Trap” at the Stifel Theater in St. Louis for the annual Missouri Thescon.

Gabe Segovia (12), is excited to be performing at the Stiefel Theater with “Trap” being his first show at Liberty.

“I am pretty excited but pretty nervous.” Segovia said. “This is the first time I’m doing something like this, so I just want to give it my 100%.”

Fellow first year actor at Liberty, Kalen Treadway (12), is excited for how our show may inspire fellow actors at the show.

“It’s cool just to get a wider audience, get our name out there, get a wider audience, inspire actors who may want to make a career out of this,” Treadway said. “It’s a bigger show,  this is our biggest show in front of an audience.”

Treadway explains the complexity of prepping for both “Trap” and “Hadestown” simultaneously.

“It is because I’m trying to find that space where I find my range again but also doing other things on the side, it can make everything a little crazy,” Treadway said.

Sebastian Tabers (11) details why Trap’s selection was so special, especially with around 10-20 other schools being in consideration for the spot.

“It’s also important to me personally as theater is completely a passion for me,” Tabers said. “I don’t take classes for it or have done anything professionally, so seeing it become such a huge thing where thousands can see it at once is such a huge deal for me and I’m sure many other Thespians.”

Tabers details what he hopes the troupe can display during this performance.

“There is so little time to prepare for this, and we also will not have more than a day to actually run the show on the stage at Thescon,” Tabers said. “It’s going to be a lot of work, but I think it’s a good chance to show how fast and well we can put on a production.”

Tabers feels “Trap” in particular will resonate with this audience.

“I think the size of the audience and the fact that the audience is all theater kids will add to the effect of the show, elevating the scare factor even more than the original production,” Tabers said.
