Love is in the air, and what better way to celebrate than a new tradition here at Liberty. Earth Club, for the second year in a row, has sold rose grams during lunch.
This year Earth Club sold more than 30 roses, selling from Feb. 3-12 not only at The Perch but also online. Members of Earth Club were stationed at the perch during red and blue lunch during these days, selling rose grams for $2 a piece. All roses which were purchased will be handed out during nest time on Feb. 13.

“It reminds people to connect with nature and real things instead of plastic gifts that just contribute to consumerism,” Earth Club president, Clara Walker (12) said.
Instead of felt or plastic roses, Earth Club made an effort to use real roses. Using an environmentally sustainable option, with real roses, students will be able to keep the roses even after they have died, finding fun and creative ways to repurpose them.
“It is a way to promote not using fake flowers and to use real flowers,” Tasharra Winston (12), Vice President of Earth Club, said.“Also people don’t see it as environmentally sustainable, but it’s still a way for them to do something for Valentine’s Day.”

Students who bought rose grams will not only be doing a romantic and sweet gesture to a friend or partner, but will also be helping raise money for a good cause. All of the proceeds will go towards the US National Park Conservation & Preservation, creating a positive impact on the park(s) the money goes to.
“I’m hoping that Earth Club can make a meaningful difference,” President elect, Earth Club member, Leah Dudley (11) said. “I feel like a lot of activism that gets focused on is awareness but awareness can only go so far. You need to actually take action and make things happen, make the change.”
The rose grams are a great way to show love for your planet and that special someone.
