FCCLA students competed at a state conference at Margaritaville Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach on March 16-18, showing off the various skills they have been working on throughout the year in order to shine in competition.

Some of the competitions included an Entrepreneurship, Focus on Children, Chapter Service Project, Interpersonal, and Teach and Tech competitions.

Madeline Mitchell (11), who earned a gold medal in Interpersonal Communications, explains why she was so proud to be advancing in the competition.

This whole experience has been amazing and we are all so proud to represent Liberty High School at the FCCLA national competition,” Mitchell said.

Zoey Wokurka (11), who got a gold medal in Interpersonal Communications, explains why it was so special for her personally to advance to the Orlando conference.

“Going to nationals means that out of all of the competitors in the state we placed in the top 2,” Wokurka said.

Reese Bedford (12) earned a silver in Chapter Service and enjoyed the charity aspects of the conference.

My favorite part of the competition was the expo in the check in area. There were many businesses, non profits, and fundraisers to connect with like Mary Kay makeup and the Child Abuse Awareness Organization,” Bedford said.

Bedford’s project that she brought to the competition was an incredibly important one, helping students in the local Wentzville community.

“For my project we were in the Chapter Service Project Display category,” Bedford said. “What we came up with and carried out was inspired by an organization called Cake4Kids, and so we planned on baking two birthday cakes for underprivileged students in our school district.”

FCCLA Club Sponsor Sandy Pizzo explains the hard work the club has been putting on throughout the year.

“They decided their specific Star event in early October. They formed a team and worked from October through December executing their project; making their boards to present and preparing their speeches,” Pizzo said.

Pizzo is proud of all of the students who competed at the FCCLA event as a whole.

FCCLA is a wonderful CTSO organization where students dig deeper into Family and Consumer Science topics and careers. Students learn to speak publicly about their event at regional, state and national levels. LHS has the BEST students representing FCCLA,” Pizzo said.
