Valentine’s Day is a day where people celebrate the ones they love, typically loved ones or close friends. For culinary arts and special education students, it was to make teachers and staff members and each other happy. Prices were $6 for chili and $5 for a loaded potato and sides were desserts and a drink.

“I thought it would be a fun way for the students to get experienced with life skills within the kitchen while working with others,” Mrs. Whitmore said.

This day was able to put smiles on everyone’s face. It all started when Whitmore wanted the students to learn how to fold napkins but then, branched out into something more.

“I think that it’s exciting for them to help out and to make them feel included,” senior Camryn Jones said. Throughout a couple class periods, all the students were making chili, sugar cookies, strawberry shakes, red velvet cupcakes, frozen yogurt with berries and strawberry pie. The challenge for them all was to make everything red because of it being Valentine’s Day.

Valentine-themed desserts were prepared to go along with the meals.

This day made students start to have a place within the kitchen setup, learning about safety and cleanliness while presenting it to other teachers.

“I love to give them food and I love helping out,” freshman Bella Tegtmeier said. This day was a good day for both the teachers and students.
