How would you like to have hot cocoa with your very own school patrolling officer?

On Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the library during academic intervention, hot cocoa was served to any student that would not only enjoy drinking hot chocolate but also listening to a Q&A with stories by resource officer Scott Young.

Officer Young has been working with the O’Fallon Police Department for 25 years and has been patrolling for 19 years. He was also in the Air Force working as security for six years. Officer Young says that his favorite part about being an officer is “there is always something new every day. You never know what to expect.”

He explains how he’d rather be in the action and not sitting at a desk every day. Officer Young also says his reasoning for choosing this as his life long career is because “I want something different, something challenging.”

Overall, Officer Young is very happy to be working with the police and wants to further his career with law enforcement. His stories really changed how the students now look at life.

Mrs. Oliva, the school librarian, says Officer Young was so kind to donate his time to talk to students during AI.

“He was our first guest for our ‘Real World Wednesday’ series, and I thought he shared some very interesting stories with our group,” Oliva said. “The experience made me respect him even more for the difficult work he does.”
