Diana Flores-Cortes (center in white) attempts to untie a human knot with her classmates in ELA class. Students were learning about separating positions from motivations, so they all had roles to play in the exercise. Everyone had the goal of untying the knot, but some people had to be in charge, make everyone happy, be distracted, etc. “This is part of an essay unit where they will have to mediate an issue and find a compromise,” Mr. Eversole said.
