The library is embracing this spooky season with crafts and haunted houses.
Staff can decorate pumpkins in hopes of winning big prizes, and students are creating 3-D haunted houses. One of the librarians, Ms. Nikki Playle, says they try to reach out to all students with these crafts.
“Someone who may want to participate in one of these [contests] may not want to check out a book, so we still try to provide something for them,” Playle said.
Staff have until Oct. 22 to submit their pumpkins and judging is on Oct. 23-24. The staff will be notified and prizes will be awarded on Oct. 25. Students can go to the library and grab a haunted house template, color it and put it together. They will be displayed on top of the bookshelves.
“For the pumpkin contest, we have flyers around the school, and for the haunted houses we keep information about it at the front desk of the library,” Playle said.
Mrs. Bryan, an English teacher, participated in the pumpkin decorating contest. She says she’s very competitive when it comes to contests. She decorated her pumpkin like a superhero with an “L” on the cape for Liberty.
“I walked down the craft aisle and saw the sparkly red material and thought it would be cute and easy to make a cape…boom! Superhero idea,” Bryan said. She remarked that she will always join in contests because she loves LHS’s school spirit.
If decorating pumpkins or building haunted houses isn’t your speed, then the library has another little contest you can participate in. At the front desk of the library, there is a jar of eyeballs and you have to guess how many are in the jar. Playle says, “students and staff, even administrators came by and guessed.”
If you are interested in anything the library has to offer, then you can swing by the library or contact one of the librarians, Mrs. Playle or Mrs. Taylor.
