Throughout every year Child Development II brings in preschoolers to the classroom to give Mrs. Nicole McFadden’s students a real-life experience.
This past Tuesday on Sept. 17 was the preschoolers’ first day in the Eagle’s Nest. This visit goes for a whole semester to both benefit the kids and the high school students.
Not only do Child Development II students get that hands-on experience, but this also gives the preschoolers a chance to prepare basic school concepts for kindergarten.
“I love playing with them,” Reese Bedford (12) said. “I think it’s fun to see what they want to do.”
During their visit in the Child Development classroom, they learn lessons in math, science, vocabulary, technology, art, literacy, and STEM. These lessons are created by those students in Child Development II.
“I think it’s so fun and cool to be able to do this as teenagers and have this opportunity,” Hailey Pallardy (11) said.
These lesson creations help the high school students fully understand the work that goes into teaching preschool and young students in general. This also helps them understand lesson planning, lesson presentation, and classroom management.
“We focus on learning through play, so although they are learning math and science concepts, my teachers do so in a fun and engaging way,” McFadden said, who is in her third year as the Eagle’s Nest teacher.
Although the preschoolers come in nervous to meet the high school students, they eventually warm up to them and begin to enjoy their time here at the Eagle’s Nest.
