Every Thursday during the month of October, Key Club hosted a Zombie Run on the soccer field during Soar Time. Students had to pay $3 for a chance to win a $15 QuikTrip gift card.
The game worked as follows: Each player had a flag belt and when pulled, they would become a zombie. Only zombies could pull players’ flags and the last student with a flag was declared the winner.
Key Club sponsor Matt Barker says the event didn’t turn out as planned but the students still enjoyed the experience.
“It didn’t make as much money as we thought it would, but it was more fun than we thought it would be,” Barker said. “Sometimes things in life don’t go the way you planned, but there’s always a silver lining.”
Barker plans on doing it again, wanting to fix their mistakes. All in all, the event still seemed like a positive experience.
Jhocelynn Lopez-Huerta (9) was the winner of the second game on Oct. 17.
“I loved the Zombie Run. I did it with my friend and it was so worth playing,” Lopez-Huerta said. “It’s so cheap and so worth it.”
Key Club is for students interested in helping others in many ways. Zombie Run is just one of the many ways they’ve strived to make fun experiences for students while also supporting themselves or a meaningful cause. Key Club and students like Lopez-Huerta recommend that everyone participates in events that interest them.
