Marching band recently competed at BOA (Bands of America) in a competition at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, performing in competitions against bands all across the region in what was one of the band’s biggest and most important showings of the season.
Sophia Otto (9) speaks on what made the marching band so successful this season.
“I feel like the guard has gotten so much better in confidence. Most of us were shy and maybe not the most confident in our skill,” Otto said. “However, our coach, KC Star, our captain, Angel Milton, and our entire team helped all of us learn things, whether that be technical or emotional.”
Otto details just how good the band did during BOA calling this their best performance yet.
“We did really well in the show right before [BOA STL super regional] so I believe it was sort of a confidence boost,” Otto said.
Otto explains how her section of band specifically (color guard) has really grown over this season.
“My section, the color guard, has done amazing this season. We have worked so hard on the field and off, plus we made strong relationships with each other along the way. The band overall had an amazing sound and performance quality this year,” Otto said.
Colin Steinbruegge (11) explains why BOA was such an important showing.
“This was our biggest competition of the year, so we had to make sure it was our best run yet,” Steinbruegge said.
Kylie Honerkamp (12) details how much the band improved over the year, saying: ¨Looking back to the start of the season, we have improved so much! Our music, marching, and visuals have come a long way. We have put lots of time into this show and I am so proud of each and every member for how far we have come!¨
BOA was clearly a pivotal moment for the marching band’s season, one that was a culmination of all the hard work and effort for all involved, the Dome at America’s Center being the backdrop to a moment that will be everlasting to those who worked all season in preparation for the BOA competition.
