CPR courses were offered up for teachers at the beginning of March.
CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is very important to know. One day you might not need to know it but then the next thing you know someone might be in need of it, and you can’t help them. You just never know. But what are you waiting for? Get out there and educate yourself so you can be the one that saves a life.
It’s estimated by the American Heart Association that 100,000-200,000 lives of children and adults could be saved if CPR was performed early enough or even at all.
The assistant principals and some secretaries participated in this course on March 6 at Pearce Hall.
“This is a huge building, so as far as Liberty’s point of view it’s helpful to have more people in case of emergency so that care can be provided immediately. I’m only one person and there’s thousands of kids on the sports field,” nurse Melissa Simms said.
We have a heart team on the school campus who trains and saves lives everyday. There are about 45 certified staff and there are about 35 people on the heart team.
“The course is important to me because I want everyone to feel safe at school. Preparing for moments when CPR is needed will hopefully help to save someone’s life,”assistant principal Stan Schumacher said. “We learned the steps of CPR for adults and children. This involved taking an online portion, a presentation, and hands-on practice.”
Learning CPR is crucial for many reasons. But the main, important one is being able to save someone’s life rather than just watching them not being able to do anything to help them. Doing something is better than doing nothing.
“The personal stories about people saving peoples lives made it more impactful,” Schumacher said.
