The winter guard team has been out and succeeding at guard competitions and performances so far this season.
Winter guard is a performing art where people spin flags and weapons in order to create a show. Winter guard takes a lot of physical effort to make the performance entertaining.
Sophia Otto (9), a member of guard, enjoys the experience.
“I like the opportunities it gives you to perform and connect with your peers,” Otto said. “It’s a creative outlet for you to express yourself and to connect with your inner emotions.”
Otto claims that people that like performing should sign up for guard.
“We accept new members with open arms,” she said.
At their last performance, the guard got second place during their competition. Cam Emberton (9) believes that they are having a great and successful year.
“Yeah, I’d say we are having a successful year, we got second at our last competition. I feel like we are all getting better at the choreography and performing.”
Emberton likes the concept of the shows and performances. She believes that their performances such as the Mad Painter’s Pallette are very entertaining.
“I really like the concepts of our shows. I think everyone should come and watch, I think they’d enjoy it. It’s a fun show, ya know,” Emberton said.
Kay Cooper (9) loves to learn new skills on winter guard. He says it gives people opportunities to learn cool tricks and skills.
“Everybody on the team is learning new skills and are able to do things that weren’t able to last year, especially having a team that’s mainly freshmen,” Cooper said. “We are able to do a lot of skills that many freshmen would be able to do with upperclassmen. While we might not have the padding, I guess, for more extravagant tricks and skills, it’s still very cool for us, as beginners, to be able to do these skills.”
In their past three shows, the winter guard team went from last place, to second place, and sixth place this week. Last week they scored 62.15 points, and this week they scored 67.02
Guard has a middle school team for those at Frontier, and welcomes anyone to join for a fun experience.
