The highly anticipated second edition of the new Star Wars trilogy arrived to theaters far and wide on Dec.14. The movie has struck a variety of reactions from fans.

Many die-hard fans were very disappointed in the film. The movie is not better than the original or even The Force Awakens by any means, but it definitely was not as bad as many fans are making it seem like.

I believe that many fans are infuriated simply because it was very unpredictable. Millions of fans have spent the past two years developing theories and predicting the events of the next movie. This led to expectations that were not met although I do agree with many of the complaints of fans.

The film started off pretty slow and not going to lie, I did get a little bored. However, it sped up and got better as the movie progressed. The two plot lines got very confusing very fast and contained many holes. Many major themes in the previous movies where dismissed in an instant, which caused some uproar with fans.

There were, however, many pros in this movie. I don’t think it was bad. It still was definitely better than the prequel trilogy. Previous Star Wars movies haven’t contained a whole lot of comedy, but The Last Jedi had me laughing at parts. Not to mention that there are many empowering women in this movie, which the earlier films lacked. While Rogue One and The Force Awakens had some amazing women roles, they did not really interact with one another and remained more so isolated from other women. The cast is much more diverse in not only gender but race as well which is incredible as well. It is refreshing to see a cast that isn’t white washed. It wouldn’t be right if I did not mention the adorable porgs in the movie. Porgs are basically adorable ewoks.

I tried to steer clear of any spoilers because there is nothing worse than a movie getting spoiled for a fan. There is a lot more pros and cons of the film but I would suggest hitting the movie theater to form your own opinions. The movie was great in my opinion. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this movie a 7. I hope in the future of Star Wars continues to improve and tries to stick more to the OG trilogy themes.
