Strong Showing
Six FBLA members qualify for state leadership conference
Six members of FBLA qualified for the state leadership conference at districts. Casey Kemerer, Seth Kemerer, David Poteet, Thomas Bindbeutel, Heather McClanahan and Jonathan Blasingame all made the next step.
At districts, some students would have to take test and would just attend as an award ceremony. Other students had performance events where they would have to present a specific topic.
“I think we had a really good showing at this years districts,” FBLA sponsor Mr. Peggs said. “I thought it was really impressive to have over one third of our kids going to state competition.”
Bindbeutel took the opportunity to place in two categories: business calculation and security investments. He took two online test and he placed fifth in security and investments. He then placed third in business calculations.
“I will eventually have to take two more test for state competition,” Bindbeutel said.
Senior Casey Kemerer is experiencing his first year in FBLA and is enjoying it. He took an hour long test at school and went to districts for the award ceremony.
Senior Heather McClanahan gave a speech on developing competent and aggressive business leadership for three judges.
“It was really fun and nerve wrecking. I feel like it’s harder sometimes performing for a small audience than it is for a big one,” said McClanahan. She joined FBLA sophomore year and became an officer because she wanted to get involved as much as she could. She has been competing every year since in about two to three categories.
These students have all worked hard competing in each category and are excited to compete at state this year.
