The honorable mention winners of the C-SPAN studentcam competition were honored on Wednesday during 8th hour at a ceremony held in the auditorium. It was attended by multiple social studies classes who were there to share in the accomplishments of sophomore Andrew Chastain, and juniors Zainub Ahmed and Dominic Reyes.

Opening remarks came from C-SPAN representatives, in town to honor the honorable mentions awards at not only Liberty, but Clayton High School, Kirkwood High School among others.

Karen Vennard, member of the Lake St. Louis Board of Aldermen, was also in attendance and posed for a few pictures with the documentary winners after the ceremony.

After the winning documentary was played for the audience, the winners were recognized on stage.

‘I’m honestly surprised at the turnout, I didn’t expect this many people to come out for the ceremony,” Ahmed said while on stage.

The two documentarians in attendance, Chastain and Ahmed, were each presented with signed certificates of achievement from Senator Claire McCaskill and representative Blaine Luetkemeyer, and for Reyes who was not at the ceremony.

Both Chastain and Ahmed were surprised by the amount of people at the ceremony, realizing just how big of an accomplishment they considered the honorable mention award. As for next year, they have big plans to do even better.

“Most likely next year, we hope to get Dominic on board again, we’re going to try even harder and go for a placement and the thousand dollar prize,” Chastain said.
