Come down on Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. to the big gym to see seniors and staff waltz around the basketball court as part of the 3rd annual Seniors vs. Faculty Swofford Memorial Basketball Game. As tradition goes, the theme of the game must also revolve around the prom theme, making this year’s Swofford game theme; Masquerade vs. Mask-our-Age.

The $2,000 goal of the game goes to the Scott Swofford Memorial Fund, which helps fund two scholarships for one senior boy and one senior girl.

The well-established Wentzville School District tradition was founded in 2000 after the passing of Scott Swofford, a well-known and respected teacher and coach in the Wentzville School District. His wife, Runa Swofford, who continues to work in the district at the front office of Timberland High School, created the Swofford Memorial Fund in his honor.

Besides from the traditional seniors vs. faculty basketball game, a dance team comprised of both students and teachers will dance at halftime led and choreographed by Ms. Farrelly and senior Katie McVey.

And in addition to the basketball game and the dance team, this year’s Swofford Game will also include a silent auction, where the proceeds will also be directed toward the Scott Swofford Memorial Scholarship.

“Over spring break, I will take pictures of the items and create an online silent auction google form that will be mailed to all students, parents and faculty,” Gerringer said. “And, outsiders are welcome too, so people can forward the message to family and friends. Bidding will close after the Swofford Game.”

The cost of admission, which is $5 this year, will also help fund the scholarship. The staff have defeated the students in the first two Liberty Swofford games.

With April 5 quickly approaching and all the final details of the Swofford Game coming into place, both students and staff are getting ready to put their game masks on for the Masquerade vs. Mask-our-Age game.
