On Jan. 26 of this year, our very own Eddie the Eagle began his internet presence through the creation of an Instagram account of his own, @libertyseddietheeagle. His bio introduces himself, saying, “Hi Liberty Students, It’s Eddie! Please ignore any typos, my keyboard isn’t feather friendly.”

Students were delighted, as their favorite mascot made a comeback into the student life at Liberty- albeit virtually.

“I have been inspired by the account,” sophomore Anna Wright said. “It pushed me to be the best I can be when nothing else does. Eddie’s account is the only constant in such a cruel world.”

According to Eddie, COVID-19 was the push he needed to create a deeper connection with the student body.

“I wanted to make an Instagram for myself before ‘covid,’ but I never got around to it,” he said. “Instagram is a great way to interact with students even when we have to stay 6 feet apart.”

His posts have shown him falling down the stairs, reading The Ledger magazine, doing math, attempting to steal from the vending machine, slipping on the freshly cleaned floors, running on the track, and much more. His captivating TikToks have also shown that his star quality has no bounds.

But for Eddie, this is just the beginning. In the future, he wants to make appearances at more games when COVID-19 restrictions allow for it. He also plans on meeting other mascots, like the ones at Holt High School, Timberland High School, and North Point High School (when it opens.)

Eddie is everyone’s favorite way to get hyped up to show off their #EaglePride, and there’s so much to love about him. “My favorite thing about Eddie is how photogenic they are,” said sophomore Madeline Francis. “They have a way with modeling and it shows.”
