Liberty Boys Varsity Basketball wins Conference
February 16, 2017
The boys varsity basketball team has showed maturity throughout the four years that they have been playing together. Starting as an all-freshman team, to slowly working up to having all four years and being more developed, the team has gone from a losing record of 7-19 last year to a remarkable turnaround of 19-6 this season.
“Last year were immature and now we have seniors and more players,” senior Alex Hines said. “I feel like we have matured more and have gotten better.”
With an 10-0 conference record, the boy’s basketball has been making history for the team.
“It feels good to win conference and to be the first team that does it,” head coach Sodemann said. “The boys have worked hard all year and have bought into the things that we have tried to teach them and were just proud that we’re able to see some positive things from the hard work that they have put in.”
Winning conference wasn’t the only big deal for the boys basketball team, but also beating the previous conference champions Fort Zumwalt South on their own court by a score of 57-55.
Winning conference doesn’t come easy, though. The team has worked hard to get where they are today.
“The team has worked pretty hard, a lot of guys put in some time in the spring, summer and fall and have come since the first day of practice,” Sodemann said. “They have collectively worked pretty hard, we’ve had our ups and downs, but they’ve battled and found a way.”
Although the season isn’t over, the boys will continue to fight hard as they prepare for districts.
