Send ‘Em to State
FBLA nearly triples their state quota from last year

All of Liberty has truly evolved, including Liberty’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, which currently makes up the largest portion of students being sent to state in the district.
With events ranging from information technology to personal finance, and with tasks like tests and roleplays, 41 students have worked long and hard for districts with 13 out of those 41 students taking their hard work to state.
FBLA, who took five students to state last year, more than doubled that number, now taking 13 students to state. And with 27 students in the entire district taking their talents to state, Liberty makes up a large share of those students.
“The first year we were here, we had four kids competing. This year we had 41 kids compete,” FBLA sponsor, Mr. Jarrett said.
And while five students made it to state last year, 13 out of 41 students will be advancing to state this year, including: seniors Muhammad Alasgarli, Abby Ebenstein, Alicia Orlando, Nicholas Raphael, Cameron Dierks, Isaac Gomez, Cole Ruyle, Adrian Przezdziecki; juniors Tyler Melvin, Thomas Bindbeutel, Heather McClanahan; sophomore Colin Rice and freshman Lydia Hart.
Among the 17 students moving forward to state, freshman Lydia Hart, who placed third in Introduction to Information Technology, was daring in the fact that she was the first one ever from the school to compete in the events she was competing in for there are more than 70 events in FBLA competitions.
And though she didn’t place in one of the three events she competed in, she was also able to place fourth in health in addition to her third place win.
“They were very clear to me that I was the first one to try all those events, so I was winging it the whole time,” Hart said.
Now Hart, along with 12 other students, will be sent to Springfield for state on April 2nd-4th. And all in all, Liberty’s FBLA chapter delivered tough competition, taking home the gold and are now taking their talents to state.
