There were 55 DECA students from Liberty who competed to qualify for state.
Liberty’s DECA traveled to the Mid Rivers Mall to compete in their District 6 Career Development Conference on Tuesday, Jan. 31. There were 55 students who competed in several categories across all areas of business, including business management and administration, finance, hospitality and tourism, marketing, entrepreneurship, and personal financial literacy.
Thirty three Liberty students qualified for state with seven students taking first place in their respective categories.
“Part of my event is a 100 question test that everyone takes the week before the competition, but the part I did at the mall is the role-play,” senior Aicha Beye, who competed in the Human Resources Management category and finished in fourth place, said. “Essentially, I have 10 minutes to prepare a solution to a human resources issue, and then I have 10 minutes to explain it to a judge.”
The state competition will take place in Kansas City from March 3-5.

Rachel Church is a senior and this is her third year in publications, filming and editing her own videos. Other than Publications, she is the Technical Director for Liberty’s drama program and helps with many other performances. Outside of school she likes listening to music, hanging out with friends, and binging TV shows. After high school she plans on studying film in the hopes of working in the film industry. She’s glad it’s her last year of high school and is excited to see what senior year has to offer.
