Liberty will be hosting a day of testing on Friday, an early release before spring break. Students who signed up for this day of testing will be able to take the ACT, PreACT, WorkKeys, and ASVAB. For students not testing, they will stay in their NEST time during the day.
Because these tests will be given during the school day, and students have many options to choose from for testing, this will eliminate transportation and/or financial barriers that could stop a student from taking the test. When signing up for a test, upperclassmen got to choose from taking the ACT, WorkKeys, and ASVAB, while all freshmen will be given the PreACT, as long as they are in Algebra 1 or higher for math.
“It shows families and students that we feel college and career preparedness is important to us,” college and career counselor Ms. Gerringer said.
One of the students taking advantage of this day of testing is junior Lilly Brown.
“When I saw that the ACT was going to be on that day, I thought it was a lot better because now I don’t have to come in on a Saturday morning and it can be on a school day that I would already be at.”
Also with this day of testing, the prices for the tests dropped by $20, making it more affordable for people to take the tests.
This is the first time Liberty will be doing a day of testing and there is already been interest in continuing this event.
“I think they should do it twice a year, once in fall and once in spring. Especially because more seniors would take it in the fall,” Brown said.
With these positive comments, there are also some concerns regarding this event.
“I feel like a lot of stuff hasn’t been communicated to the people not taking a test about what is happening,” Brown said.
