If you’ve been on social media or any place for news this year, you have most likely seen multiple plane crashes reported on your feed. It seems like every week there is another fatal plane crash.
Some notable crashes include the crash involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter above the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 29. Another frightening crash was on Feb. 17, involving Delta Air Lines flight DL4819, which actually flipped, and still managed to keep all 80 passengers alive.
As this trend of plane crashes keeps going up, it seems like it must have an effect on the fear of everyday people hopping on an airplane.
Let’s look at the facts though. With the month of February being mostly complete as of writing this, it can be reported that there were actually 17 more fatal plane crashes last year, in 2024, than this year, in 2025 in the first two months, according to Greenville Online.
Recent years have also seen a steady decline of plane crashes, according to CNN.
While the crashes seem insignificant when put as a number on a sheet, it is also important to find out the sheer significance of all of these crashes making headlines recently.
Any plane crash is scary to think about, but especially one that involves commercial planes, and crashes close to our home. This shouldn’t discourage you too much though, as aviation hasn’t been safer. So the truth is that these plane crashes shouldn’t cause too much worry if you’re catching a flight any time soon.
