The American Legion Boys State of Missouri is a summer program at Lindenwood that took place from June 22-29 that allowed students to experience the fundamentals and practice of government.
The students selected for this program typically perform well in school, and the experience hopes to guide them down an influential successful path.
The Liberty students selected to enter the American Legion Boys State were: Pranad Balla, Shaun Dobratz. Logan Hinds, Tyler Sethaler, Jacob Spoor, and Aarnush Survi.
The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State of Missouri, also at Lindenwood, describes itself as a program that promotes American pride, as well as develops a student’s leadership, citizenship, and scholastic ability.
Their goal is that the participants come out a better version of themselves.
The students chosen to attend were: Reese Bedford, Cadence Benson, Anna Fleetwood, Micaela Garcia, and Margot Revelle.
Revelle, one of those selected, shares her experience from girls state.
“Girls State was a totally one-of-a-kind experience where I was able to insert myself into tons of situations that I wouldn’t normally,”Revelle said. “Since it was like a mock state government, I was able to see how different actions that I or my friends took affected the system, without the pressure of anything real happening,”
The nature of the program being one that brings together girls from across the state means Revelle got to meet some peers who were similar to her and some that were completely opposite.
“their perspectives shaped their opinions.” Revelle said.
Senior Logan Hinds, and one of the selected for boys state, shares his feelings on the experience.
“boys state was a really cool experience.” Hinds said “mostly because I was able to do a lot, and learn so much over the week,”
Those selected to enter these programs were chosen due to their leadership abilities, as well as their interest in government. Potential candidates must participate in an application and interview procedure, and are thus chosen out of many intelligent students.
This group showcased great care for others and a great performance in academics in order to participate in this experience.
