With a strong start to the third game of the season, Liberty came up a bit short in the end. The Eagles fought as hard as they could in their first road game, however ended with a loss to the Warrenton Warriors by a score of 40-35.
Liberty, with a record of 2-1, comes back home to host North Point High on Friday. North Point is undefeated at a 3-0 after a win against Timberland last week.
Against Warrenton, Liberty started off strong, scoring the game’s first two touchdowns and ended the first quarter with 13 points. Jaylen Mack (11) scored both touchdowns. Warrenton ended the opening quarter with 7 points. Liberty led 13-7 after the first quarter.
Liberty, starting a touchdown ahead of Warrenton, ended the second quarter just a point short of the opponent. Warrenton scored their second touchdown with 4:58 left in the second quarter and took the advantage to halftime with a 14-13 lead.
The Warriors, who improve their record to 3-0, came out strong in the second half scoring four of the game’s next five touchdowns. The Eagles would rally late in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as Warrenton survived. Both teams combined for six scores in the fourth.
Mack carried the Eagles in scoring, rushing for 3 out of the team’s 5 touchdowns. James Alexander scored the second to last and Camden Cooper (11), scoring the last one.
Mack led the team in rushing with 78 yards on 21 carries.
Cody McMullen (12) and Sullivan Thornton (11) both played quarterback with Thornton completing a touchdown pass. Cooper had 7 receptions for 94 yards. Jack Ryan (12) had four tackles including a sack on defense.
