Friday night lights, regionals, state, nationals. More than 15 dedicated hours weekly, freshman Morgan Sylvester spends her time doing what she loves most, cheerleading.
As she starts her freshman year, Sylvester has tried out and made the varsity cheerleading team.
“It’s so fun and enjoyable being on varsity, although weird because I’m not with many other athletes my age,” Sylvester said.
Not only is Sylvester a freshman on a varsity team, but she is also the second freshman in Liberty’s cheerleading history to be on varsity cheerleading team.
Head coach Collin Johnson shares his opinion on Sylvester.
“She was excelling past our expectations when she came to open gyms,” Johnson said.
Although this is Sylvester’s first year on the varsity team, it is her fourth year overall cheering. Sylvester gets to compete at four different competitions, along with other varsity cheer athletes, including nationals which is held at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
“I’m over excited to not only compete but to get to go to the park with my team,” Sylvester said.
Sylvester will be competing on three teams this year: the varsity cheerleading sideline team, the competition team, and personal competition team.
“It’s not too difficult, the practices are at different times, so it all works out well,” Morgan explains when balancing all her teams.
This freshman seems to be dedicated to her sport, and plans on continuing her love for her sport.
