On a typical Wednesday, you’ll expect the same thing you do every day from Mr. Schumacher – a big smile on his face. But that smile grew a little bigger at the November faculty meeting.

At that faculty meeting, Ms. Reininger announced that Mr. Schumacher was the Liberty staff’s choice for teacher of the year.

“At first, I was shocked then humbled to be nominated,” Schumacher said. “And when I won, I was blown away.”

Schumacher is honored to be nominated to be teacher of the year.

Mr. Schumacher is named Liberty staff’s choice for teacher of the year.

The other teachers who were nominated for the award was Mr. Hysong, Mr. Barker and Mr. Sacre.

“I try to be to involved as much as I can as a coach, a class sponsor and in charge of professional development,” Schumacher said.

Junior Antonio Cruz was unaware that Mr. Schumacher won teacher of the year.

“I was very surprised when he did because I wasn’t expecting it,” Cruz said. “He’s straight to the point and he is very good leader and he is very good pointing you in the right direction.”

Junior Brice Moreland did know that Mr. Schumacher did win teacher of the year.

“I wasn’t surprised,” Moreland said. “Because Schumacher is an outstanding teacher and helper.”

Mr. Cole, a social studies teacher here at Liberty, has known Mr. Schumacher for many years and the two have co-taught classes together.

“Mr. Schumacher is a measuring stick,” Cole said. “He sets the bar high and he strives the people around him to reach that bar. He is one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever met. He always put others firsts. He’s the person when no one else wants to do it, he does it with a smile.”
