Choir unveils its first choir concert of the year with a folksy twist.
For choir president Brandt Cleppe (12), his first performance of his senior year was special for him because he can reflect about how the program has grown.
“Senior year shows feel so special because the entire time I’ve been in choir, I’ve watched people I’ve gotten close to come and go, but now it’s my time,” Cleppe said. “Being a role model means a lot to me and changes how I act and approach others.”
Cleppe explained why it’s special to watch the new freshman class perform.
“Watching these new people come out and sing with us is so amazing to watch,” Cleppe said. “I love hearing everyone’s different voices and styles, and I can’t get enough. Each person brings a unique aspect that makes the choir sound different every single year. I’m confident that the younger people will be able to lead well when I leave.”
Cleppe struggles to pinpoint his exact favorite part of choir.
“It’s always hard to pick a favorite part of a choir, cause everything is always so good, but I have to say that the mass choir is my favorite,” Cleppe said. “Nothing brings me joy quite like singing with a bunch of people from different choirs in perfect harmony.”
Choir director Carter Datz has watched the choir program change with each new member.
“It’s really exciting to see our choir program continue to grow with the addition of new choir classes,” Datz said. “I was so proud of how our long-term choir students welcomed in our new singers and cheered them on.”
Datz details part of what made this particular concert so unique.
“One of my favorite parts of the concert was hearing our new Baritone Chorus made up of all guys – they worked so hard despite having minimal choir experience and sounded great. My other favorite part was getting to premiere our original song ‘Time Capsule,’ which you can hear on music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube under ‘LHS Choirs.'”
