Applying to college is a part of the process that certain students underestimate and overlook. So to help those seniors that have no clue where to start, or just need help, College and Career Counselor Michelle Gerringer sets up meetings every year for a week. This year it is the week of Oct. 7.
Also students will be awarded with food, stress balls, folders, and more for showing up and applying.
Students should also have their social security number memorized to be used in their application.
“We set aside time to provide assistance to seniors who are needing a little extra support or encouragement or the time to and get their college applications done,” Gerringer said.
Gerringer says no matter where you go to school, you can get help.
“In fact, there’s even a spot for the military to participate, so they can come down and get signed up for the ASVAB, which is a test they have to take to get into the military,” Gerringer said.
Angel De Jesus Lemus Leal (12) came down during one of those meetings and said he has started from scratch.
“I did it because she came into a class and she told us about it,” Leal said. “And I didn’t know how to do it or where to start.”
Gerringer recommends that everyone should go down to the College and Career Center because she notices a difference when kids come down.
“I do notice a difference. I feel like the students that participate seem to feel very relieved,” Gerringer said.
If you want to come down today is the last day to come down and get applied for free and also just get help.
