The decision to continue your sport after high school is a difficult one to make. Many choose to stop participating after graduation. However, four athletes decided to commit to various schools after high school.
On Nov. 13 at 6:30 a.m. athletes, families, coaches, and friends gathered to celebrate commitment made by four different students. These students were Easton Gain (12), Jacob Greer (12), Kennadi Green (12), and Ayden Taylor (12).
National Signing Day is a big day to allow athletes to showcase their commitment and hard work throughout high school.
“I think it’s just really cool for all the athletes from Liberty to just get together and sign for their selected school,” Taylor said.
Athletic Director Cary Eldredge has also created a unique tradition as each student gets asked a question or two that they answer for everyone in attendance.
“I take a little bit of time and it gives everyone in attendance to get to know them [the athletes] a little bit,” Eldredge said.
When they choose these schools they also look at other things other than the sport
“I chose Pitt. State because I went and visited there and the culture was just super amazing,” Green said.
Not only will these students choose their future schools, they will also be choosing their future degrees and jobs as well.
Taylor will be studying and getting a degree in business at the University of Tulsa. He chose business because he enjoyed DECA and found it interesting.
Committing to a college is a tough decision as students will have harder and more time consuming practices.
“Practices will be more serious, and a lot more games. Everything will be more serious,” Greer said.
There will also be more athletes at the same level as them when they go to these schools.
“I’m going to be fighting for a spot day in and day out,” Gain said.
Liberty congratulates these athletes in their future commitments.
