In a high scoring game, varsity hockey took a win over Fort Zumwalt North on Monday at St. Peters Rec. Plex, winning 7-5.
After getting a two-goal lead in the first, and then allowing North to tie it up in the second, Liberty came back strong in the third.
After North scored the first goal to take a 1-0 lead, Liberty’s Mason Nickler (9) tied the game, followed by two goals from Trey Wilson (10).
In the second, Liberty let in two goals for North, tying the game, 3-3. Trying to regain their lead, Liberty scored a goal but the referee determined that the puck did not cross the goal line, resulting in no goal.
“We could have been more consistent,” head coach Mark Turnipseed said. “We did good on puck movement though, playing all three zones of the ice.”
Going into the third with determination to win, Liberty scored four more goals. Nicholas Kuhn (10) and Drew Westhoff (9) each got a goal, while Trey Wilson got another two.
“I think we played really good, our goalie (Ben Teismann) stopped a lot of shots,” player Zach Pruss (11) said. “We had a lot of chemistry going.”
Varsity’s record improved to 2-1 after the game and they play Fort Zumwalt West Saturday at 6:15 at St. Peters Rec. Plex next.
