Elijah Quest competed at the GAC competition on Nov. 9 for boys swimming feeling a bit nervous but excited to compete alongside his teammates.
“I’ve been preparing pretty much the whole season,” Quest said. “The practices are hard because they’re really late at night. But I got through it and yeah, just long practices and a lot of meets this season.”
Quest spent his break time during the meet hanging out with teammates, as well as students from other schools.
“I went into the competition knowing that I was not going to win overall, because I knew that two other divers were better than me, but I was mainly just focused on having fun,” Quest said. “I competed against Francis Howell, and Fort Zumwalt. It was a really fun day because I was friends with all of the other divers. In my usual practices, I dive with all of the schools in the county, so I knew all of the kids well.”
Throughout the meet, Quest expected everyone to be competing against each other, but was surprised to hear that the meet was separated into two divisions.
“I was surprised during the awards when they announced my name as scoring first place for our division, because I thought that we all competed against each other. Overall, it was a good meet and prepared me for state.”
