After putting up a hard fight all game Tuesday night, the Eagles varsity hockey team pulled through with a 5-2 victory over the St. Dominic Crusaders.
Head Coach Mark Turnipseed thought that this was a very good game played by his team, with a lot of hard work being put forward by every player.
“We played our best team game all around tonight by far,” Turnipseed said. “Offensively, defensively, everyone was hustling all night long, no lack of energy for sure.”
With two goals in the first period – one by Zach Pruss (11) at 13:38 assisted by Carson Brassel (11), and another by Trey Wilson (10) at 10:44 assisted by Lucas Kempf (11) – the Eagles went into the second period up 2-0.
The Eagles scored another two goals in the second. Trey Wilson got his second of the night at 13:50 assisted by Lucas Kempf, and Quinn Scrogin (9) got the other at 4:11 which was unassisted, helping the Eagles keep their lead going into the third at 4-0.
Wilson got a 2-minute minor penalty for roughing in the second at 1:07, which carried over into the third, but the Eagles didn’t let that stop them. The third period wasn’t the strongest for the Eagles, only scoring one goal and letting in two by the Crusaders. Trey Wilson got his third of the night at 12:34 assisted by Nicholas Kuhn (10).
Greyson “Goose” Howarth (11) was very happy about how the team moved the puck throughout the game, scoring five goals and only letting up two.
“We don’t play as a team that well, we usually try and do it all ourselves, so we did better on that tonight,” Howarth (11) said.
In net was Ethan Eager (9), who got his first win of the season in this game.
Liberty improves its record to 5-2.
“We’ve got a great group of kids this year, that’s definitely my favorite part,” Howarth said.
