With only having 11 skaters and two full lines, Liberty was able to tie Francis Howell 6-6 on Saturday night at the St. Peters Rec. Plex.
“This may have been one of our best team games, we were so short-handed tonight,” coach Mark Turnipseed said. “The boys were tired, but we had a really good talk before the game, and the boys left everything on the ice.”
After Howell got the first goal, Liberty responded 10 minutes later. Trey Wilson (10) opened up the scoring for Liberty with 0:46 left on the clock and an assist by Dylan Handlan (12). Leaving the first period the score was tied at 1-1.
In the second, Howell was able to get the first goal, but Liberty responded four minutes later. Wilson got his second of the night at 9:43 with the assist going to Dylan Handlan again. Howell scored again, but Wilson responded with an unassisted goal with 0:30 left on the clock, getting his third of the night. Howell responded with another goal, leaving the end of the second at 4-3 Howell.
“They played as good as they could’ve with half a team,” goalie Ben Teismann (12) said.
To open up the scoring in the third, Wilson got a penalty shot at 13:00. Reid Wells (9) got a tripping minor at 12:42, and Howell was able to get a power play goal just over a minute later. Wilson respond a minute later getting his fifth and final goal of the night at 10:16 with the assist by once again going to Handlan.
Greyson Howarth (11) got Liberty’s final goal of the night at 6:47 with Handlan getting another assist. Howell responded a minute later getting their final goal, ending the game with a score of 6-6.
Varsity’s record is now 5-5-1, and they are sixth in their division.
