Students, family, and staff gathered together for the winter band concert that was held in the auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
Both jazz and concert band performed that night and was directed by band director Sarita Magno-Parsons.
This show was previously known as their “holiday” concert, where they play a few Christmas songs along with the normal setlist.
Isabella Iezzi (12) loves playing this show above all others because of the Christmas tunes they play together.
“My favorite memory from previous years was hearing the class, which is very loud, scream ‘ho ho ho’ very quietly during a song where we were supposed to be very loud, and watch our band director laugh at us,” Iezzi said.
Before the show had started, Iezzi felt nervous about the performance but was excited for the first concert to happen.
“The most stressful part of the show is making sure we perform the music as best as possible, since we only have one chance to show the audience our music,” Iezzi said. “I felt nervous during and before the show since I was scared I was going to mess up, or play something out of tune.”
Izzei has been looking forward to this concert since it will be her last winter concert with the liberty band.
Nandakishor Rakesh Nair (9) has been waiting for this show as it will be his first high school performance.
“Winter concerts are always a great opportunity to showcase how much we’ve progressed through the year, and it’s a lot more local and tight-knit in nature as opposed to our marching band competitions,” Nair said. “My favorite memory during the show was getting to solo for jazz band.”
Conner Veleca (11) has been playing for the band since his freshman year and was excited to showcase the talent the band has been practicing.
“I play the alto and tenor saxophones, and I have been playing it for six years now. I chose it because they were the instruments my dad played in high school and college.”
This show meant a lot to many kids and was truly a great night for both the players on stage and the parents and students in the audience.
