The bell rings, you go to your next class, but you walk past the support staff employees of your district. Did you notice they were even there? Do you know the true meaning of their job?

Steve Woodruff is an electrician for the Wentzville School District. Earlier this week I walked outside of my classroom and noticed him. I never have really noticed an electrician helping out around our school.

Woodruff was going around fixing the fire alarms around Liberty. When you think of a custodian or an electrician, you may think that, that is their whole life. But they do have a life outside of their job.

Although Woodruff is dedicated to his job, he also has his priorities and hobbies in his personal life. Outside of work, he enjoys a variety of activities that help him unwind and recharge. He is passionate about his fitness and regularly works out to stay fit and healthy. Hanging out with friends and family is also something that he loves doing. He loves exploring new food destinations and is very passionate about live music.

“I’m on like 70,” Woodruff said.

Every 10 years  is when sensors and alarms are supposed to be changed out in schools after they degrade over an amount of time. Preparing for a disaster can be stressful. But always making sure that your alarms in schools are changed out can keep schools more prepared and ready for any situation that comes their way.

Some things that Woodroof enjoys about his job is troubleshooting and fixing things.

“You do more on the job than you do in school,” Woodruff said.

To become a licensed electrician in Missouri, you have to have five years of school. The process to becoming an electrician is long and difficult but, you get paid while you learn and gain the experience.

Everyone has life outside of school, their job, or whatever they do with their life. It’s not easy being an electrician with your certain deadlines, short amount of time you have to get things done, schooling, and building up to have your official license to become an official electrician.
