Bringing the Community Together With Breakfast

The Police, the Fire District, EMS, public works and school officials all came together on Monday, Feb. 10 for the Wentzville School District’s Community Partner Breakfast at the cafeteria.

The event’s agenda consisted of a big breakfast for community members to feast on, a presentation showing where the district is going, and students who came to talk about some of the district’s new programs, such as WSD Ignite.

“I didn’t think twice about it. It’s a great opportunity to see some familiar faces,” St. Charles Chief of Police, Kurt Frisz said.

Julie Durham, the Success Ready Content Leader for the Wentzville School District, was the head organizer for this event.

This is only the second year the district has held this community partner breakfast and Durham believes that this tradition will carry on for many more years.

“Last year we thought it would be important to give thanks to all the people in our community who have come in and supported our learners in some way or another,” Durham said. “It was such a success last year that we decided to do it again this year.”

Community members were greeted at the front door and walked to their table by Liberty’s National Honors Society members. Before the presentation, many members took the time to get food and talk with their fellow community workers. This breakfast had a big turnout of people, including some of the most important workers of our community, including Frisz and the Superintendent of the Wentzville School District, Brian Bishop.

“I think it’s great the school district does this to bring everybody together because it is a challenging thing to do,” Frisz said. “There are so many different disciplines represented from police, fire, EMS, and then the public work side with different government entities coming out, it’s great to see everyone here.”

This is Bishop’s first year as the superintendent of the district and his first year coming to this breakfast.

“This is an excellent opportunity for them to come in and see our facilities, get a chance to hear about the fun things we’re dong, the exciting things, and the way we’re working with our students and preparing them for college and the workforce,” Bishop said.

One thing that the district did differently in this year’s breakfast than last year was they brought in teachers and students to talk about what all is going on in the district and the schools, to give the community an inside look on what life is like inside the schools of the Wentzville School District.
