Due to rough weather conditions on March 4, and March 5, all spring sports had to do their first week tryouts inside Liberty. With the news of rain, wind and brief snowy conditions, the teams had to switch things up, and change how they would usually practice.
“We couldn’t do as much long distance running, so instead, we had to do a lot of running up the stairs and other exercises like that,” track runner Mateo Espinosa (9) said.
In some instances, some teams couldn’t play the sport. They had no other choice than to only be able to focus on fundamental work.
“Since the main focus in tennis is swinging a racket, and hitting a ball, we obviously couldn’t do that,” tennis coach Beau Hill said. “So now you just have to focus on the footwork that people often overlook.”
Some teams didn’t exercise and rather just talk about how to get better.
“Outdoors, we normally go to a course or a range, indoors we just have rules meetings, and talk to coach about course management, and stuff like that,” golf athlete Cole Packingham (11) said.
All sports were majorly affected by the weather, but one thing is common with everyone this reporter interviewed: They all would rather have practice outside.
