A new year means new beginnings. Following the ending of the 24-25 school year, the GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance or Gay Straight Alliance) Club is coming to an end. With the current board, Kaitryn Roberson (12) as President, Sash Myers (12) as Vice President, and Phoenix Egeler (12) as Communications Manager, all being seniors, a new set of students have taken it upon themselves to step up.
On April 22, members of GSA had their second to last meeting in Matthew Eversole, club sponsors, room during blue lunch. This meeting was a bit different, however, as this was the voting for the 25-26 school years board. During the meeting before held on March, 11, members were made aware of the open positions and encouraged to run.

Three students ran this year for all open positions, Kay Cooper (9) ran for GSA President, Zack Iannicola (9) ran for GSA Vice President, and Abigail O’Connell (9) ran for GSA Communications Manager. Each person got their respective positions.
Earlier this year GSA held a position for training, Project Manager, which Cooper ran and is now holding. This position has helped him be able to grasp what it is like to be on the board and is now better equipped for a higher position.
“I was able to see how important GSA is to have for so many students at Liberty,” Cooper said. “I wanted to be able to help as many people as I can and make GSA as best as it could be.”
Cooper originally joined GSA because they believed it was a space for people to be themselves, just like many of the other candidates.
O’Connell originally joined GSA for her friends but soon found a place where she can be herself without being judged. She has previous experience with graphic design and communicating with people which made her an excellent candidate for the Communications Manager position.
“I really wanted to help the club more and I saw it as an opportunity I could take,” O’Connell said.
Previous board member Myers has been in GSA since their freshman year, holding the Vice President position for four years and is excited to see new people take on new roles.
“I think that the fresh ideas will be interesting and I’m excited to see what they do with the club,” Myers said.
