As the year comes to a close, seniors have many huge milestones ahead of them, one of which is the decision of what they will be doing after graduation, whether this be tech college, university, trade school, military, employment, or service.
Seniors who wished to participate in the annual Decision Day filled out a survey which was sent out about two weeks before the actual event took place, which was May 2. However, students who didn’t RSVP were still allowed access to the event.

Senior students arrived at the Auxiliary Gym during Soar time. As seniors made their way into the gym, they were met with tables lined in the small hallway with flags where they were able to write their decision after high school. This display of commitment can now be found outside the student center on the bulletin board.
After students finished their flags, they were able to participate in a variety of activities, button making, photos, senior sign-out, placing a pin on a map, and many more.
Many students enjoyed the photo opportunities available, a way to show off what your plans were after high school.

“I liked the photo op opportunities to get one last picture with everybody,” Layla Awadallah (12) said.
Awadallah plans to go to Saint Charles Community College (SCC) where she plans to get her associates degree in general business as this would help her get the jobs she hopes to get in the future.
Awadallah wasn’t the only one who enjoyed the photos they were able to take.
Molly Mueller (12) enjoyed being able to take photos with her friends though it did make her quite sad. Many of her friends will be going to Mizzou while she will be going to SCC for a business degree. The bittersweet reality of the fact that school will be ending soon made her emotional, but she still was able to enjoy the fun opportunities that were available at the event.

Students were able to mark their place on a map, grabbing a pin and sticking it on your new home. That’s what Marissa Varga (12) did, placing her pin on Kirksville, Mo. to announce her destination; Truman State University. Varga plans to major in psychology and minor in cognitive science ever since she took the AP Psychology class available at our school.
Whether you’re heading somewhere local or flying 10 hours away after high school, there’s always somewhere for you, decision day allows students to see that.
