It’s that time of the school year again. Everyone is getting ready for the finals that will either make or break their grades. Studying is kicked into high gear while others aren’t even worried…too busy planning out their summer to be bothered by studying. The real question here is: Who’s Ready for Finals?
Planning vacations and looking ahead towards summer is a very easy habit to fall into since you have two months to fill with hangouts, beach days, and car rides. But while you’re filling your calendar, how full is your study guide? That’s what we are asking some of you who are determined to get a good grade on your finals.
The Ones Who Came Prepared
Dmitry Maloney (10) has a very strong opinion on the matter.
“I believe some classes need more studying than others,” Maloney said. With EOC’s coming up fast on almost everyone in school hours, Maloney feels the need to divide his attention between his studying only studying an amount of time he feels comfortable with. According to the class, for example, he doesn’t feel the need to study for ELA due to it being an “easy class.” Even if he is only doing the minimum amount of studying for each class, “at least I’m not going into finals week with no preparation,” Maloney said.
With at least a couple hours of studying under his belt and a couple of study guides in hand, Maloney feels ready to head into his finals and confident he can get a good grade on them. Will he be able to perform when asked to put his preparation to the test? At least he’s going into the finals with some studying. How about the students going in blind and taking a shot in the dark?
Already Itching to Leave
On the other side of the school world, while heads are in books, other people hold their heads high, already marking their calendars and making plans, pointing fingers on maps, communicating and such, But why is this? Is vacation time really more important than your biggest grade of the entire school year? Let’s hear from someone who’s got it all planned out, and figure out the real reason why some people are confident enough to say they don’t need to study even slightly.
Balin Brothers (10) starts off brutal and honest, putting it all up front.
“I haven’t been studying because I think I would do just fine on finals, without the need for studying,” Brothers said.
But why would he do this? Just like every other student, he’s looking forward to summer, and doesn’t ‘have time’ to have his head in the books while hes out doing what he loves. “Summer is more important because it gives you more time to do the stuff you enjoy,” Brothers said.
While some people’s confidence is misplaced, and others are ready to put it to the test on their final tests of the year, there’s no real way to see “Who’s Ready for Finals” just yet. Once the results are in, and grades are either made or broken and GPAs rise and fall. We’ll see who’s time was really well placed.
